The "What's up"

Shantelle & The Juke Joint Band have been providing  musical entertainment across the country since 1999. Shantelle Hudson-Black hails from Dyersburg, TN, where she began singing at an early age.  The band consists of rhythm section, keys, and a (3) piece brass section. Shantelle moved to Nashville, TN, to attend Tennessee State University, where she was a cheerleader for two years. It was at TSU that Shantelle fell in love with blues.  Shantelle is an active member of several musical organizations, Musicians Aid Society, Nashville Blues and Roots Alliance, and The Blues Foundation, that aid in the continuing growth and support of blues music. She currently has her first blues single, “Haunting Me”, streaming on all platforms.  This Princess of Blues, is just what the blues doctor recommends! My Blues Ain't Pretty!

 

Shantelle and the Juke Joint Band named Winners of 2025 Nashville Blues Challenge
Nashville, TN – September 16, 2025 — Shantelle and the Juke Joint Band, an 8-piece group led by
powerhouse performer and vocalist Shantelle Black, have been named the winners of this year’s
Nashville Blues Challenge, presented by the Nashville Blues & Roots Alliance (NBRA).
 

As the exclusive Middle Tennessee affiliate of the national Blues Foundation based in Memphis, NBRA
proudly sends winners of the local challenge to compete in the International Blues Challenge (IBC).
Shantelle and the Juke Joint Band will receive an expense-paid trip to Memphis in January 2026, where
they will represent Music City on the world stage.
 

Special thanks go to Gibson Guitars and the Gibson Gives Foundation, who are providing instruments that
will be sold and auctioned to fund this trip. Additional support will also help send the solo/duo winner
(to be decided in October) as well as a youth delegate band to Memphis.
 

“Shantelle is an extremely hard-working woman, on stage and off. Everyone in the blues community
agrees that this is certainly her year to represent Music City on an international stage, and we have high
hopes for her success,” said NBRA President John Walker.
 

The Nashville Blues Challenge has a track record of launching careers. In 2023, Piper and the Hard Times
won the local competition and went on to take top honors at the International Blues Challenge in January
2024. Their momentum carried forward as their 2024 album climbed to #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart
and later earned the prestigious Emerging Artist Album of the Year award at the IBC.
